Agatha in Agony

We spent a heavenly afternoon floating through the festival in this mythical town in rolling hills, sampling various incarnations of Vizzini’s soft and subtle cheese.....only to find ourselves at the dark and dreary doorstep of the town’s churches.

There's nothing like a feast of gluttony to drive you to church....The baroque churches of Vizzini are as most in Sicily – often formidable, worn and weary on the outside but all 24-carat gold gilded drama and bling! on the inside.

Pictured here is Saint Agatha, the pagan turned Christian martyr, in her misery and then in her heavenly glory! She was punished for her loyalty to Christ by a rather crude masectomy.
