Fact or Fiction: St. Catherine's in Taormina

Joan of Arc claimed that St. Catherine of Alexandria was one of the voices who advised her. A governor's daughter and scholar, Catherine of Egypt is rumored to have lived in the early 4th century.

The truth is that she may be a figment of faith. In 1969, the Roman Catholic Church removed her feast day (November 25) from its general calendar citing a lack of historical evidence for her existence. In 2002, she was reincluded in the calendar. Between 1969 and 2002, concession was given by the Vatican to celebrate the feast just the same.
